Copenhagen!!!

Sorry for my negative attitude in my previous blog...I just had to get that off my chest. My second day was much better. I was more awake so I enjoyed the lectures much more. During our first lecture about the history of copenhagen architecture, I realized that I really do enjoy school. We had our first studio today and were put in groups. The studios are amazing. (I need to take a pic.) They are in this old, charming building that was built circa 1700s. I think I'm going to like everyone in my group very much. At first, I have to admit that I was pretty nervous about being in studio again since it's been such a long time. Already I think I'm getting back in the swing of things.

I had a chance to walk around and explore the city some today between classes and afterwards. It's a beautiful city and can't wait to get to know it better. They keep saying that this warm weather (80 degrees) is unusual for a Danish summer. It's usually a bit cooler. I love it!

I'm debating renting a bicycle. There are bikes everywhere, and it looks like so much fun to be able to explore the city and get places much faster on a bike.

No one really eats out here (esp no takeout! Shocking, I know!). So that means I had to brave the grocery store and cook in my little kitchenette in my dorm room. At the grocery store, nothing is written English (what are the Danes thinking! just kidding). This caused me to mistake cream for milk. I don't know if you realize but cream and cereal is just gross! Since nothing is in English, I can't read the instructions on how to cook certain things. Because of this and because the grocery stores also do not have much of a selection, I am just going to eat very basic things while I'm here (eggs, sandwiches, pasta, etc). We don't have an oven in the room anyways.

About Me

I graduated from undergraduate architecture school in Texas (UTA) in 2004. A couple of weeks after graduating, I moved to NYC and began working. Now in 2009 after five wonderful, fulfilling, interesting years of living in one of the greatest cities in the world and debating with myself about whether or not I am ready to be a student again, I am heading back to school to get my masters in Interior Architecture (MIA, yo!) from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Before moving to Providence, RI (where RISD is located) in the fall, I will be living in Coppenhagen, Denmark for approx. seven weeks studying Scandinavian design and studio.
