I don't really enjoy flying. I hate the smell of the plane air right when you step on the plane. I do like traveling though, and flying seems to be the most efficient way to get around. If I could find a better way to travel I would. I've flown a lot in the past (mainly because of my job), and I've always been really lucky in terms of making it to where I need to go in a reasonable amount of time. My flight to Denmark was an exception. It was terrible! To fly the cheapest that I could, I chose a flight that went from DFW to Boston to Iceland to Copenhagen. Long story short (kind of) is that my flight from DFW to Boston was delayed (due to mechanical issues) just enough that a cute little Icelandic family (who all resemble Bjork!) and I missed our connection by about a half hour. Uggg! The next flight wasn't until the next day at 2:30pm and didn't get in until 6am the following day, which was 17 hours later than I was supposed to arrive. Therefore I missed being picked up at the airport, orientation, get-to-know-you dinner, and a bus to my new temporary "home." Amercian Airlines did put me up in a hotel and gave me a whole $15 food voucher for dinner, breakfast, and lunch. However, the first hotel the shuttle took us (us being me and the iceland family who I took under my wing b/c they were confused and cute & I was trying to up my good karma quota) to a hotel 25 minutes away only to find out they were full. The shuttle then took us 25 minutes back to another hotel. The food vouchers didn't work here. Anyways, got on the flight the next day with no problems (besides accidently throwing away my food vouchers). Flew to Iceland. Sat next to the young couple who couldn't quit making out. Landed about midnight in Iceland time. It was still very bright outside. So cool, but I was already exhausted and hungry because I didn't sleep and had little to eat. Then got on plane to Copenhagen. Once again, I didn't sleep (I'm not counting the half hour I dozed) and landed at 6am. Killed about 1.5 hours, since the office didn't open until 8am) before making my way to the school. Got handed a packet of info and began my day full of lectures. My first day in Copenhagen consisted of me being tired, without a shower and being able to change, and overwhelmed! Once the lectures were finally over, I grabbed my 25-30 lb suitcase, purse, laptop, and backpack and made my way "home." Finally made it "home" (after figuring out ticket line and trains) and realized I didn't have a key to my room and didn't know where to get one. No one around to help. I'm still homeless! Just kidding. Got a key about an hour later, got showered, unpacked, and relaxed and felt much better!
It was a bad first day, but already things have started looking up.
